Home Sweet Vermont

This weekend we made our first trip of the season up to Vermont. It was a short little getaway, mainly to move stuff into the new place, but relaxing and enjoyable none the less. Thanks Mom & Dad!

Snippets From My Weekend {via Instagram}

Saturday was relaxing. We spent the beginning half of the day shopping and had lunch at Ted's Montana Grill, and then spent the evening with my family. Sunday we were in full force working on the house. Dan installed trim in our living room, back stairway, and bedroom, while I worked on organizing and rearranging our closet.

Better quality photos coming soon!

Happy Monday!

Home Organization Inspiration

Soures: {Bath 1} {Bath 2} {Closet 1} {Closet 2}

Lately, I have been going crazy {literally, a few sleepless nights} thinking about the clutter I have right now in our closet {which is actually the second bedroom in our house} and the other closet and storage areas in our home.

Since it is over a hundred years old, before people decided they needed more room than a broom closet for their clothing, etc., we have virtually no closet space.

The actual closet in our bedroom is a corner closet and wouldn't even hold all of Dan's clothes, let alone have us try to share it. The only logical solution was to convert our second bedroom to our closet.

In there we have a wall of hanging clothes, shoes below that, our hampers, and a small closet that holds some of my jackets, furs, and blazers. Oh, we also have my vanity in there which takes up a good chunk of space.

It's really not terrible when everything is put away, but since not everything has a true designated place it gets cluttered fast, so I am hoping to put together an organization system like the two above to keep everything from piling up and have all of my things within easy access.

Aside from our closet situation, we have a really tiny bathroom. It's small, it's cramped, and it's skinny.

We have one of those wall mounted sinks were you can see the pipes below it and, to me, it's an eye sore. I'd love to get a new sink, but we're on a minimal budget and it's not our forever home, so since it is in fine working order it's staying. But I would love to find a way to cover the pipes, maybe by using some fabric like above {I'll have to take this DIY to the drawing board}.

We have a tall, skinny storage hutch in between the toilet and shower, which holds towels and other miscellaneous bathroom supplies, but this could also use some organizing.

I also need to organize my hutch in the dining room, as well as the decor on top of it, and I like the simplicity and cleanness of the one above.

And I just think this hanging roll of paper is the cutest thing in the world. I just need to figure out where I can put it!

I'll be posting updates as I tackle each room.

Last Days of Summer

Roses at my parents house

Fourth of July fireworks on Columbia Lake

Oneida Lake, Sylvan Beach, NY

In the last few days before fall officially begins, I figured I'd share some long lost pictures from over the summer.

This summer we didn't spend nearly enough time at the lake {consequences of parents getting a pool!}, but we did have a few fun evenings at the Catullo's lake house.

Our last vacation of the summer was a trip to Sylvan Beach in upstate NY. We visited with my mom's side of the family and relaxed on the shores of Oneida Lake. We also made it to the NY State Fair, but my camera was definitely not with me for that - too much eating and boozing.

Overall, it was another amazing summer.

Tomatoes & Mozzarella

There has been a lack of cooking going on lately, which I blame solely on having my wisdom teeth taken out and only being able to eat soft foods. A week and a day later and it still hurts to chew, but I am sick of living on apple sauce, mashed potatoes, and soup {although my aunt did make me a delicious homemade soup - thanks Bon!}. My veggie loving heart is desperately missing salads and all things crunchy, but since the chewing part is still difficult and I'm in no mood for green smoothies, tomatoes & mozz were definitely the next best thing.

I threw together a mix of local heirloom, green zebra, and fourth of July tomatoes with fresh mozz, basil from my backyard, a little olive oil, and some sea salt and pepper. Bon appetite!

Santa Monica Pier & Manhattan Beach Pier

We stayed in Manhattan Beach for our last few days in California. We made the trip to Santa Monica Pier and the original Muscle Beach. The views of the city from the pier were great.

It's views like this that reminded me of my childhood obsession: The OC. I could just picture Marissa and Ryan brooding on the lifeguard chair.

San Francisco/Alcatraz

We made it to San Francisco for my birthday. We went out the night before, and I can't remember for the life of me what the restaurant was, but I believe it was in the business district and it was reaaaally good. We had truffle fries and roasted brussels sprouts. So. Good. The next day {my actual birthday}, we spent the day in prison! Not literally... we toured Alcatraz, which was on the top of my list of places to visit {I know, I'm a weirdo}. While waiting to board the ferry we had drinks at Pier 23 Cafe. Of course I had a birthday Bloody Mary and it was delicious.
